About Us - Phraya Pichai Muay Thai - Bury St Edmunds

Camp History

The Bury St Edmunds Phraya Pichai Muay Thai Camp was founded by Kru Nick Pamment in 1997, operating out of Bury St. Edmunds Sports and Leisure centre. In 2000 the camp relocated to Kru Nick’s Academy in Suffolk Park—Moreton Hall, and the camp flourished.

Also in 2000 Kru Don Heatrick passed his instructors examination at the Phraya Pichai Headquarters in Birmingham under Kru Bob Spour, and began teaching Muay Thai classes at the Kru Nick’s Academy. Don also trained in Thailand for the first time, participating in Ajarn Tony Moore’s BTBC Tracking The Warrior trip.

In 2005 Kru Don instigated the Bury Phraya Pichai fight squad and began coaching and organising the camps fighters, as well as competing himself. Kru Richie Gent was also awarded his instructors grade by Kru Bob Spour, and began helping coaching fighters.

In March 2007 Don represented England at the WMF Amateur Muay Thai World Championships in Bangkok, Thailand (>> click here for more info). Kru Richie assisted the England Squad at the Championships, cornering Don’s 3 fights and carrying out pre-fight preparation with England’s Kru Yai Vinnie Dekon.

Don and Richie learned a huge amount from this World Championship in Thailand, and returned to Bury with a great deal more experience and an understanding of what is required to be a top level international Thai boxer. Fight training changed and the results are speaking for themselves.

In August 2008 Kru Nick Pamment handed over the Bury St Edmunds Phraya Pichai Muay Camp to Kru Don, so that he could concentrate on his Premier Kickboxing system. Don and Richie formed a partnership and undertook running the new Muay Thai gym together, with the aim of producing top level fighters and a truly outstanding Thai boxing training facility for anyone who just wants to learn the science of eight limbs.
